When I woke up and turned the radio on 3.11.11 after the commercial the radio host was talking about this severe earthquake and a tsunami that was making it’s way to Hawaii. I turned on the TV and saw footage from the disaster, so I went online and was in a state of shock. When I was supposed to be getting ready for school, I was just trying to make sense of all the horrible images I was seeing.
It was really weird watching it. I first learned about the earthquake at about 5am my time which would have been about 8pm in Japan (or something like that, I’m not very sure about the time) So much time had past since the initial disaster, but I didn’t even know about it for such a long time.
When I got to school, we just watched the news in my graphic design class and later in painting. Most of the classes though didn’t talk about it or made it less of an issue than it was and is. There was this one person I know who was making fun of it, and of me since I was being so emotional about it. I wish that (regardless of one’s feelings toward a place) would show some respect instead of making some fun from it.
I was able to get in contact with my friend in Chiba right away, which was a great relief to me. She said that the factory her husband worked in had exploded but said everyone in her family was alright.
Anyway, I love you Japan. Please recover completely from this.
*I haven’t read over this, I don’t really feel like it, so please excuse any grammatical errors.
